  • Dr. Sara Behdad collaborated with Dr. Cassandra Telenko (Georgia Institute of Technology), and Dr. Bill Bernstein (National Institute of Standards and Technology) to organize a workshop on "Advancing Sustainable Design: Road-mapping and Community Building" at AM3D/IDETC/CIE 2016 conferences. 
  • Congratulations to Allicia Gurpersuad who successfully defended her Masters project and graduated with an MS in Mechanical Engineering. Allicia has accepted a position at General Motors. 
  • Mostafa Sabbaghi has been selected as the recipient of Robert B. Kleinschmidt Memorial Scholarship, an annual scholarship for a student of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
  •  Ardeshir Raihanian is awarded travel grant to present his work on ‘Agent-Based Simulation of Waste Electronical and Electronics Equipment Recovery’ at the ASME Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC 2016).
  • Ardeshir Raihanian is awarded NSF student travel grant to present his work on ‘Integration of Product Life Cycle Data toward Remanufacturing of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment’ at the Industrial & Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC 2016). 
  • GETCOT lab in collaboration with Dr. Lora Cavuoto ran a workshop on March 19, 2016 as part of Tech Savvy, a daylong science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career conference planned to attract girls to these fields. The workshop theme was "How to Repair Your Old Computer?" The workshop slides are available here

  • Five Undergraduate summer fellows have joined ongoing projects at GETCOT lab to gain experience applying systems engineering tools to a variety of ‘design for sustainability’ problems. 
  • Congratulations to Mostafa Sabbaghi who has been selected as one of the 2015 ASME’s Design for Manufacturing and Life Cycle (DFMLC) Scholars.
  • Congratulations to Angshuman Deka who graduated with an MS in Mechanical Engineering and who has accepted a position at Newport Corporation.
  • Ardeshir Raihanian is awarded MSEC/NAMRC 2015 travel grant to present his work on ‘Impact of Additive Manufacturing Adoption on Future of Supply Chain’ at the 43rd SME North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) and the ASME Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC 2015).
  • Dr. Sara Behdad, Ardeshir Raihanian, and Jida Huang ran a workshop as part of Tech Savvy, a daylong science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career conference planned to attract girls to these fields. The workshop was held on March 14, 2015 and was structured following three themes: 1) greener electronics, 2) design for end-of-use products recovery, and 3) design for ease of repair.

  • Dr. Sara Behdad has been participating in  ’Science is Elementary’ multiyear program sponsored by National Grid, UB and Westminster Community Charter School to stimulate students interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
  • Ardeshir Raihanian has been selected as one of the ASME’s Design for Manufacturing and Life Cycle (DFMLC) Scholars.
  • GETCOT research group met with Dr. Ben Wang from Georgia Tech over his visit to UB.

  • Ardeshir Raihanian, and Sara Behdad’s paper “Upgrade Planning of Used Products Considering Uncertainty in Quantity and Variability in Quality of Returns”  was accepted to the 2014 ASME IDETC conference.
  • Daniel Stratton, Sara Behdad, Kemper Lewis, and Sundar Krishnamurthy’s paper “A multi-Level Approach to Concept Selection in Sustainable Design” was accepted to the 2014 ASME IDETC conference.
  • Mayank Pareek, Rupal Vikas Srivastava, and Sara Behdad’s paper “Energy Conservation Using Cost Minimization for Household Space Heating” was accepted to the 2014 ASME IDETC conference.
  • Dr. Sara Behdad, Dr. Lora Cavuoto and Mostafa Sabbaghi have provided a fun workshop as part of Tech Savvy 9 on electronics waste disassembly and recovery to inspire girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Workshop was held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 10:00 am – 1:00 pm on North Campus.
